Are you reopening the Fort?

Not me personally! I am an independent artist, commissioned to make work in, around, and about Coalhouse Fort (https://essexcdp.com/commission/lauratrevail-coalhousefort/) . A new Advisory Group has been set up to bring the Fort back into use (https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/thurrock-historical-places/coalhouse-fort-advisory-group ), a feasibility study has been produced (at the bottom of that page), and the Fort has received Heritage Lottery Funding to begin that process. (https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/news/coalhouse-fort-awarded-national-lottery-funding-to-help-secure-long-term-future-for-this ) . Work is beginning now. I also look forward to the Fort being re-opened, and I have signed up as a volunteer, so I might be cutting back some brambles or putting my shoulder to the wheel in another way to help bring this deeply loved place back into use.

Are you paid by the Fort?

No. This work is made possible through a co-commission from Start Thurrock and Essex Cultural Diversity Project supported by Arts Council England. My work does not take any money that could be put into re-opening or maintaining the Fort, quite the opposite. The commission supports this aim, and contributes to it, rather than taking any resource from it.

If I make work, take photos etc. as part of creative activities and professional development as part of this project who does that work belong to?

You. Always you. Any work you create is yours and belongs to you, not to my project. If you make/write anything you'd like me to show off as part of the project, and there is a good way to do that, I'd love to - but even if I do all copyright belongs to you and it will only be displayed where you want to show it. E.g. if anyone would like extracts included on the website, or stuff created to be displayed physically at later events, and I can facilitate that, it will NOT then also get used for anything else by me, I would just be showing your work on that page, or at the event (credited ofc with links etc), and only if you want it shown. Your work is your work - you can share it or not as you please.​
