‘Settling the Souls’ at St Catherine's Church - East Tilbury Saturday 1st November 2 - 4pm

A very warm welcome to those of all faiths and none to this special activity where we are invited to ‘settle the souls’. Participants will be invited to think about and share the memories of those who have passed away locally & known to us, those connected with the history of Coalhouse Fort and St Catherine’s and those whose names are not known to anyone.

And as we enter the season of remembrance we might like to take the opportunity to settle our own souls from anything that discomforts and troubles us.

Working in collaboration, Laura Trevail, leader of the ‘Goings on at Coalhouse Fort’ project will guide us in composing poetry to help us record our thoughts. Revd Michèle, leader at St Catherine’s, will guide our closing activity where everyone will be invited to light a candle to remember loved ones.

Refreshments available, level access into St Catherine’s.

For further details, download the pdf flyer, or contact Laura Trevail through the contact form on this page.

This activity forms part of Laura’s commission at Coalhouse Fort

“Fortified in times of threat, neglected in times of safety, surprisingly responsive to change and opportunity, the history of Coalhouse Fort speaks strongly to challenges facing us all right now. There’s a tenacity, a stubborn-ness to the place, combined with broad and expansive strategic views. A much-needed hope, even in the cracked and dampening stone.”

This work is made possible through a co-commission from Start Thurrock and Essex Cultural Diversity Project supported by Arts Council England
