A morning spending time in Coalhouse Fort - sharing memories, writing stories, exploring this unique location.

Perhaps you came here as a child, and would like to show your children or grandchildren where you used to play. Perhaps you worked or volunteered here. Perhaps you have walked the outside but never been inside, and would like to see what is beyond the gates. Perhaps you used to visit, and would like to see the place again, on the eve of its re-animation. Perhaps you are an artist or photographer and would like some time inside to photograph or draw the Fort at this time in its history

Whatever your connection to the Fort, or your curiosity, you are invited to join artist Laura Trevail for an informal nose-about.

“Fortified in times of threat, neglected in times of safety, surprisingly responsive to change and opportunity, the history of Coalhouse Fort speaks strongly to challenges facing us all right now. There’s a tenacity, a stubborn-ness to the place, combined with broad and expansive strategic views. A much-needed hope, even in the cracked and dampening stone.”

This work is made possible through a co-commission from Start Thurrock and Essex Cultural Diversity Project supported by Arts Council England â€‹â€‹
